Abstract

Zoological museums of seven educational institutions in the twin cities of Hubli-Dharwad (India) were screened for infestation of stuffed specimens by larvae of the dermestid beetle, Anthrenus coloratus. The survey indicated heavy infestation of stuffed birds (195 out of 335) and mammals (27 out of 44). In birds, the sites of infestation were feathers of the tail, wings, head, neck, breast and dorsal portions of the body; the skin was also affected. In mammals, infestation was mostly confined to the fur, skin, and patagium.
