Abstract

Background: Hypogammaglobulinemia, an important arbitrator of infectious complications, is known to develop in heart transplant recipients. While investigations have alluded to a higher prevalence of this disorder in the presence of tacrolimus and mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) based immunoprophylaxis, little is known of the impact of ethnicity in determining circulating immunoglobulin levels. Furthermore, the influence of subtle changes in immunoglobulin expression on infectious complications has not been previously studied.
