Abstract

AbstractChlamydia are obligate intracellular eubacteria. In France, Chlamydia trachomatis is the main bacterial cause of sexually transmitted diseases (STI). The bulk of infection is asymptomatic and therefore remains undetected. They may result in ascending infection. Nucleic Acid Amplification Tests (NAATs) are used to detect C. trachomatis. Serodiagnosis has an interest in evaluating the extent of disease. First choice treatment of uncomplicated uro-genital infection consists of single dose of 1g azithromycin or doxycycline 7 days. Patient and partner have to be treated. Following the emergence of rectal Lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) in Europe, the implementation of surveillance system was done in France. A firm diagnosis of LGV depends on a detection L genovar of C. trachomatis from the site of infection. LGV recommended treatment is based on doxycycline for 3 weeks.
