Abstract

Until recently the ‘ Streptococcus milleri -group’ (SMG) was considered to be phenotypically heterogeneous 4 yet genetically homogeneous, being classified as ‘ Streptococcus anginosus ’. ’ These organisms are isolated from a wide variety of clinical conditions including deep-seated abscesses (brain and liver), dental abscesses and infections of the gastrointestinal and urogenital tracts.
