Abstract

SummaryAfter planting, tulip bulbs can be infected by Botrytis tulipae present in the soil or by its spores on the bulb surface. The tunic around healthy bulbs may give partial protection to the scales. In contaminated soil infection does not occur when the distance between bulb and inoculum is 4 cm or more. The percentage of infected bulbs is considerably lower in the second year after soil contamination.
