Abstract

To investigate the relationship between pulmonary tuberculosis and lung cancer. A prospective study on the infection of mycobacterium tuberculosis was carried out in 330 lung cancer patients by classic acid-fast staining (ZN) and improved acid-fast staining ( IK) method and immunohistochemistry staining (ABC) and TB-PCR methods. Positive rate of mycobacterium tuberculosis by ZN was 27. 88 % in the specimens from fiber bronchoscopic brash of 330 patients with lung cancer ; the rate by IKand ABC was 38. 71 % and 51. 61 % respectively in 93 cancer tissue specimens , and 57. 14 % for mycobacterium tuberculosis cultivation in 14 dissected cancer tissue specimens and 60 % for TB-PCR in 20 tumor samples. There is high infection rate of mycobacterium tuberculosis in lung cancer patients , especially its L-form. These results suggest that there might be a relationship between pulmonary tuberculosis and lung cancer.
