Abstract

Diagnostic imaging plays an integral role in accurately and expeditiously diagnosing and determining the extent of infections in immunocompromised children. A histologic diagnosis can seldom be made based on imaging. However, recognition of patterns and distribution of processes, as well as familiarity with imaging methods can help limit the differential possibilities. This report reviews contemporary imaging modalities, discusses the strengths and limitations of these modalities, and describes the imaging appearances of the most common infections found in children receiving cancer therapy.
