Abstract

Studies have shown the usefulness of labeled leukocyte scintigraphy as a specific tracer to detect inflammatory-infectious conditions in orthopedic surgery. The authors submit the case of a 69-year-old woman who had a total left knee prosthesis implanted 2 months earlier. At the time of exploration, the patient complained of knee pain and local clinical signs of soft tissue infection adjacent to the surgical scar. A fistulous orifice on the front of the leg, immediately below the knee, with abundant suppuration was observed.
