Abstract

Amniocentesis for prenatal diagnosis appears to be a safe procedure from an obstetric aspect. Some of the present-day indications for amniocentesis for diagnosis are outlined. There are obvious moral and religious questions and objections to any type of genetic engineering. Perhaps increasing concern for the quality of life may promote this area. The procedure does not seem to affect infants in this small series; however, more cases with longer follow-up are necessary. We are confident that progress in this area has much to offer our society.
