Abstract

Their roots are in that fact that by the end of the eighteenth century the secular and religious authorities of the empire were not too successful in disciplining Orthodox priests, at least not enough to get them to be careful to keep records of social condition of the population of the parish

Summary

Infant mortality in the population of the Cossack

It was revealed that in the Hetmanschyna only the postnatal infant’s mortality rate was recorded, but neonatal mortality was almost not taken into account Even considering such a misreporting, children between the ages of 0-14 constituted a part of more than half of all the dead ones recorded in metric books. The highest mortality rate was in the first years of life, but the exact life duration determination is excluded and become impossible by the fact that when recording the age of all children at the age of several days, weeks or months were recorded as those who were one year old Under this marker, two one-year age groups are accrued.
