Abstract

This paper looks critically at some recently published views on the difficulty of parents’ raising their children bilingually, (e.g. tolerance of children's deviations from adult speech, the influence of friends and relatives, finding an adequate vocabulary for a foreign environment), and also examines criticism of the use of children as the subjects of research into the acquisition of bilingualism.
