Abstract

The headset utilizes two transducers, a subminiature, variable-reluctance inertial microphone in a vibration-absorbent mounting and a variable-reluctance bone-conduction receiver of conventional size. A multipurpose head strap is arranged to mount the microphone either on top of the head or at the rear; the receiver is generally worn over one ear. An amplifier with self-contained battery is controlled by AGC for the microphone circuit and by a manual volume control, which sets the level at which both the remote station and the speaker's own voice are heard. The frequency range is confined to 300–4000 Hz and thus rejects noises generated by the air hoses and the like. A cable is spun out from a reel and may be disconnected at any time. The device is capable of deep immersion.
