Abstract
The inelastic scattering of 81.6 MeV deuterons has been studied on sixteen levels up to 13.8 MeV excitation energy in 16O. The experimental angular distributions have been compared with DWBA predictions within the framework of the collective model. The addition of an imaginary term is found to be necessary to account for the angular distribution shape of the collective transitions at small angles. Deformation parameters have been extracted for the collective states.
