Abstract

We have carried out field-dependent physical properties measurements on the hexagonal compound CeCuGe, which exhibits ferromagnetic ordering below 10 K. The magnetic specific heat below TC = 10 K reveals a clear magnon contribution with an energy gap in the magnon dispersion, while above TC = 10 K a Schottky type anomaly is found near 80 K. This indicates the presence of crystal-electric-field (CEF) excitations, which was directly confirmed by inelastic neutron scattering (INS) measurements using the HET time-of-flight spectrometer at ISIS Facility.
