Abstract
Electron reflection experiments by elastic peak electron spectroscopy (EPES) were performed in the energy range 250-1500 eV for polycrystalline Al, Ni, Pt and Au samples. The measurements were used to determine the inelastic mean free path (IMFP) in this energy range, employing a recent theory for EPES. Evaluation of one sample was performed using the remaining samples as standard. In this way an extensive data set was produced making it possible to verify the internal consistency of the results. Good consistency of the IMFP values within the experimental error of 10% was found for Ni, Pt and Au while the results for Al deviate
