Abstract

Inelastic and charge-exchange scattering of nucleons are examined using a single-inelastic-scattering approximation and including ths effects of multiple scattering within the framework of Glauber's theory. Integral cross sections for the discrete-level excitation in the inelastic scattering and charge exchange scattering of protons have been calculated for a number of 1p shell nuclei and the asymptotic behaviour of these cross sections has been analysed. It has been shown that in these transitions the main contribution comes only from several states of the final nucleus. The role of multiple-scattering effects is investigated with respect to the structural features of the nucleus. The angular correlations (p, p'γ) are examined in connection with the possibility of distinguishing the partial transitions from secondary photons.
