Abstract

Introduction: The Polish system of education provides some options for the organization of compulsory education and teaching adressed to pupils with health issues. Research Aim: The aim of the study was to explore and describe the elementary knowledge of teachers about one-to-one tuition, and their attitude to this form of schooling. Method: The study employed a diagnostic survey method, a questionnaire technique and a questionnaire. Statistical processing involved the Pearson chi-squared test, U Mann-Whitney test and Kruskal-Wallis test. The Pearson chi-squared test was applied to test the relationship between two qualitative variables. When obtaining statistically significant results, following the Kruskal-Wallis test, a post-hoc Duncan test was run. Results: The obtained results indicate that the majority of teachers possess basic knowledge concerning the legal aspects of in-home one-to-one tuition. They mainly identify it as a well-prepared form of schooling. When asked about possible changes, they often point to such a need, mostly emphasising the possibility of using modern technologies and allocating more hours to working with a pupil in a one-to-one tuition setting. Conclusion: It should definitely be emphasised that students whose health does not require convalescence at home should learn at school. However, pupils who undergo long-term treatment or rehabilitation would benefit from some recommendations developed for teachers to help pupils in one-to-one tuition sustain contact with their peers and to reintegrate with the classmates when returning to school.
