Abstract
The State of Emergency in India (1975–1977) The article discusses the course of the State of Emergency in India, which took place between 26 June 1975 to 21 March 1977. The author explains the main reasons of introducing the state of emergency by then prime minister of India – Indira Gandhi. The article focuses its attention on the steps taken by the head of Indian government, leading to the introduction of so-called “disciplined democracy” and their consequences for Indian society. The author especially emphasizes controversial issue of family planning in India, during the emergency state.
