Abstract

The study of E. coli growth in response to its physiological environment and subsequent capacity to express recombinant protein for commercial exploitation has been richly studied.(Lee 1996) While a complete review is not presented here, some classic algorithms are revisited for their capacity to control the feed rate of glucose substrate supplied to fed-batch cultures of recombinant E. coli. More, some modifications are suggested to improve their reliability and suitability for use in industry. In the case of the pH and RQ stat, modifications were made to an existing algorithm. In the case of DO, a novel control algorithm is proposed.
