Abstract

To sustain its economic growth, Chad, like many developing countries, bases its national strategy on the primary sector, and, in addition, the exploitation of mining resources. The city of Sarh is facing several urban challenges, including uncontrolled water management. This chapter examines the industrial water management model to ensure that socio-environmental risks are identified and can be controlled. The analysis of the industrial water issue in Sarh focuses on the spatialization of relative socio-environmental risks induced by the management of the urban water service. It is possible to improve the current industrial water management system in Sarh by making the various treatment systems in the industrial units and health facilities operational. Finally, in the medium term and in order to promote controlled water management, the management of industrial water in Sarh should be considered within the framework of an integrated water management system, with a single network or operator.
