Abstract

The aim of this paper is to show how transport phenomena should be included in photochemical reactor models. Photochemical reactions can generally be studied in the laboratory using an experimental system, where the effects of the reactor and the operation course are negligible. However, this method of studying photochemical reactions gives insufficient information for the application of the reactions in an industrial system. In most cases, coupling between the photochemical reactions and fluid hydrodynamics is very important, especially in the vicinity of the emitting surfaces. The purpose of this paper is to propose a method to evaluate and compare the effects of the light absorption profile and of the mass boundary layer.
