Abstract

It is clear that psychology of perception has lessons and consequences for the design of objects and environments. This paper particularly addresses the potential for design of the theory of direct perception as formulated by James Gibson. The context here is industrial design engineering, in which engineering and psychology come together in the design of products and systems for human use. Examples are given of the application of the theory of direct perception for designing teleoperation and CAD systems.
