Abstract

With the use of a questionnaire, an empirical study was carried out on 20 major manufacturing industries in the East Central part of Nigeria, randomly sampled, to determine the role played by information in the cause and resolution of industrial conflicts. Results affirmed the role of information in the generation of conflicts in the work place. Absence of information relating to staff salary/remuneration is the single most important factor influencing the high frequency of industrial conflicts. A number of information factors that generally cause conflicts were also highlighted. Timely information releases from management on reasons for certain actions and unhindered expression of views by staff during staff meetings were found to be the most effective means of preventing or resolving conflicts.
