Abstract
Vitellogenin synthesis can be induced very quickly in adult male Sarcophaga bullata starting from 3 days after emergence by injection of a dose ≥50 nanogram of ecdysterone. Vitellogenin has been identified by electrophoresis and immunologic methods. Implantation of ovaries in males does not induce vitellogenin synthesis. Normal vitellogenesis cannot be obtained by implantation of ovaries combined with injection of ecdysterone. Apparently, ecdysterone derepresses in some way the vitellogenin gene or m-RNA in males.
