Abstract

ELIPs are nuclear-encoded chloroplast proteins which are expressed in the first hours of the greening process of etiolated plants. The ELIP mRNAs appear transiently reaching a maximum level after 2–4 hours of illumination. The corresponding protein in pea accumulates between 4 and 8 hours from the onset of the greening process. The mRNA is short-lived in the greening plants (Meyer and Kloppstech, 1984; Grimm and Kloppstech, 1987).
