Abstract

Increased expression of MnSOD in irradiated animals increases cellular and tissue survival by the reduction of superoxide and decreased levels of MnSOD in +/- transgenic mice decreases survival following irradiation (Rad Res 154:365-374, 2000). To study the effect of MnSOD expression relative to irradiation, we developed a mouse line in which expression of one or both endogenous MnSOD alleles is activated by doxycycline (DOX) administration. Homozygous (tet/tet) mice have very low levels of MnSOD in the absence of DOX.
