Abstract

SummaryProstaglandin E2 pessaries for the induction of labour are being used more in ‘high-risk' cases and may have advantages for the diabetic patient. Prostaglandin E2 is known to cause decreased glucose-induced insulin secretion in diabetes mellitus. We did not detect adverse effects of clinical importance in a preliminary study of diabetic patients using prostaglandin E2 vaginal pessaries before induction of labour.
