Abstract
Infection with polyoma (Py) virus can lead to synthesis of progeny virus, a reaction which prevails in mouse kidney (MK) cell cultures.' The other type of response, predonminant in hamster embryo fibroblasts, leads to cellular transformation in the absence of viral replication.2-4 In this preliminary report we will show that synthesis of Py virus in confluent MK cells takes place in two distinct phases and that the actual replication of viral progeny (phase 2) is accompanied by virus-induced synthesis of host DNA.
