Abstract

The possibility of sustaining alternative conceptions of reality in the presence of a continuous information flow is discussed. Simple, archetypical problems of discriminating between two categories of objects are used to show how multiple equilibria may arise. The analysis is based on a method due to Ljung, with applications to a wide class of problems concerning the convergence of stochastic algorithms.
