Abstract
Tyrosine hydroxylase activity in cultured rat adrenal glands is increased during incubation in vitro in a medium containing a high concentration of potassium. The increase is abolished by inhibiting protein synthesis or by blocking catecholamine release. Depolarization and release of catecholamines caused by high concentrations of potassium results in tyrosine hydroxylase induction.
