Abstract

Despite the availability of powerful finite element method (FEM) tools, an accurate and fast analysis method is needed in the early design stage to find an initial motor design structure with the expected performance. When it is applied to maglev trains, inductance of the transverse flux linear synchronous motor (TFLSM) is affected by the cogging structure, the change of air gap length and the variation of lateral offset. Therefore, the analytical method of inductance in the TFLSM is different compared to that in the conventional rotating field winding motors. The three-dimensional (3-D) analysis models for obtaining inductance parameters are comprehensively introduced in this paper. The results of the inductance analytical calculation are verified and evaluated in light of the FEM simulation results and the prototype measurements.
