Abstract

Local density calculations for the strongly enhanced paramagnetic ZrV 2 in the C15 structure have been performed. The extraction of a S-electron of one spin produces a local spin polarization near the nucleus, which sometimes induces magnetism among V- d valence electrons depending on the core hole. We calculate threshold energies, X-ray absorption near edge spectra (XANES) and circular magnetic X-ray dichroism spectra (CMXD). The results suggest that enhanced paramagnets, like ZrV 2, may give quite unusual effects in spectroscopy measurements.
