Abstract

This paper presents the computer aided design (CAD) and computer aided engineering (CAE) modeling of a 3 phase Circuit Breaker in order to analyze the electromagnetic field (EMF) distribution, and the induced current generated by a fault in one of the three phases. In a first step the detailed three dimensional (3D) CAD model of the circuit breaker is created in the CAD environment PTC Creo Elements v.18.1. Then, the exact 3D model is imported in the Ansoft Maxwell v. 15 CAE environment and the electromagnetic field distribution and induced current are computed. The fields along the axis trough the coils are compared to the catalog tripping characteristic of a 3 phase MCB.
