This species has a potential value for its development so it is necessary in order to preserve it. This research aimed to ensure the existence of purple markisa and other information about its variability and appearance. It was conducted from June to September 2014 in Alahan Panjang. The research used survey method with purposive sampling, the total sample is not limited to no more variation in the selected sample. The data can be collected by interview with the owner, observed and measured on several phenotypic characters. The data is analyzed with some method: descriptive analysis to phenotypic appearance, variability analysis based on standard deviations, and cluster analysis to phenotypic characters. The result showed that the presence of purple markisa has been already nearly extinct. The young leaves of this plant are more used by people as a vegetable but its fruit precisely not utilized. According to some analysis of 30 germplasm accessions, there is a wide phenotypic variability to some characters observed..
