Abstract

Most of Indonesian’s people consume rice as their main food, therefore the introduction of new varieties are very important to improve the productivity of rice. One of the efforts in introduction and development of new varieties is the introduction of rice character. This research was conducted to introduce new varieties and to determine people's preference of rice characters. The information of people’s preference could be used as a recommendation for a company of seed production in Banten Province and information for the breeder to assemble new varieties refers to people’s preference. The tests were carried out on September 12, 2012, in the Sub-district of Cibadak, Lebak District. The sample population was people who live at the location of rice new varieties display and rice farming. This research used a purposive sampling technique with 20 people respondents. The method of data collection was a questionnaire. Quantitative data with scale ordinal were analyzed by non-parametric statistical with Friedman test. The results showed that Inpari 10 was the most preferred by respondents for shape and taste of rice, and Inpari 7 was the most preferred by respondents for color, flavor and texture of rice.
