West Kutai District, East Kalimantan Province has many biodiversities, such as local fruit specific locations that are characteristic of the region. Kapul or tampoi (Baccaurea macrocarpa) fruit is one of the fruits which consumed by local people in rural and forest areas in West Kutai. The aims of this study were to characterize the genetic resources of kapul fruit in West Kutai. Exploration and characterization were conducted in May to June 2014 in West Kutai. The existence of local fruit needs serious concern especially for conservation and preservation because the existence of local fruit begins to extinction now. Kapul fruit collection was done in the backyard farmers, gardens, also forest as natural habitat. The field research methods were included: (i) exploration, (ii) characterization and (iii) data recapitulation in the data passport followed by documentation of the data. The result showed that white, yellow and small kapul (jentikan) had specific morphological characteristics both stems, leaves, and fruit.
