Pros Sem Nas Masy Biodiv Indon 1: 1715-1718. One form of protection of intellectual property is patent. The patent has a role in protecting the technology generated by researchers. In addition, a patent can be used as a mean of dissemination of knowledge. Protection of biological resources of Indonesia, as a mega-biodiversity country, is an important thing to do by the research and development institutions. Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) as one of the largest research institutions in Indonesia, has reviewed and disseminated the results of the utilization of biological resources to be used by all relevant parties, such as the public, government, and industry. At the end of 2014, LIPI has registered 368 patents comprising 36.7% of biological fields. The purpose of this study was to map the types of patents based on the utilization of biological resources. The method used in this research is descriptive analysis method based on a patent database at the Innovation Center LIPI within 1991-2014. The results showed 35.6% of the patents included in the field of biological patents utilized as food and 31.1% utilized as medicine and cosmetics.
