Adi EBM, Indrayani S, Mulyaningsih ES. 2015. The dormancy breakdown in java turmeric using plant growth regulator NAA and BAP. Pros Sem Nas Masy Biodiv Indon 1 (1): 105-108. Public awareness of natural health products has increased the consumption of herbs and drugs derived from java turmeric or temulawak (Curcuma xantorrizha). One of the obstacles in the cultivation java turmeric rhizome is the dormancy phase of the seedling. This preliminary study aimed to break down the dormancy in seedlings of java turmeric using plant growth regulators (PGR) BAP (benzyl amino purine) and NAA (Naphthalene Acetic Acid) at different concentrations. Results of the studies can be used to examine the active ingredient of java turmeric on several harvesting age. Two PGRs (NAA and BAP) and three different weights of rhizomes were used as treatments. The result showed that PGR has no effect on the diameter of the bud’s base, number of shoots, and number of budding rhizomes. Furthermore, the weight of 200-250g rhizome is the best seedling bearing the largest diameter of the bud’s base, the highest number of shoots, and the highest number of budding rhizomes.
