Abstract

This research aimed to trace historical footprints of Indonesian New Order in producing national identity discourse through education historiography. The main question studied is what was Indonesian national identity which is constructed by New Order look like? The method used was qualitative research that focused on analyzing the content of high school history textbook. Analysis directed in a discourse which was produced through history narration about national movement and independence revolution (1900-1950). The results show that New Order discoursing Indonesian national identity as a nation who runs to be a modern and militaristic society. The discourse of modernity shown up through exposing Western culture as the only source of Indonesian progression. Indigenous culture itself was negated as old fashion that inappropriate for modern life. On the other hand, military discourse production delivered through exposing the success in defending Indonesian independence. On the contrary, diplomatic way was negated as the looser.
