Abstract

This paper will explain and share the role of the main waste bank in solid waste management toward circular economy (CE) in Bandung City, Indonesia. The research adopts qualitative methods. The activity includes collecting primary data through in-depth interviews with 15 national and regional stakeholders and observing the role of the main waste bank, Resik Waste Bank, in Bandung City Indonesia. The role of the main waste bank for sustainable waste management toward CE is still weak. This chapter examines that the main role of waste bank was not optimal for its unorganized and synergized policy and social supports. Main waste bank in Bandung City contributes ~1.6% to waste handling and reduction to the final landfills. It was classified as low. However, the main waste bank is said to have contributed to making better social relations, economic welfare, and changing perceptions of waste. Overall, this means that the Indonesian Government has to put more attention to main waste bank policies and create sufficient systems in order to support and maintain the sustainability of waste bank units. This chapter examines the role of the main waste bank in sustainable waste management toward CE through the contribution of the main waste bank in responding to the national target on waste reduction and waste handling in 2025; the role of the main waste bank in empowering the waste bank units through CE paradigm and the impact of the main waste bank on waste perception, economic welfare, and social relations.
