Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of individualized nursing intervention of responsibility system for improving elderly male patients with nocturia. Methods 60 elderly patients with nocturia hospitalized into our hospital from June, 2014 to June, 2015 were selected as a control group and 60 from July, 2015 to July, 2016 as an experimental group. The control group were routinely cared; in addition, the experimental group got health guidance and water-drinking intervention according to the patients’ life habits, psychological status, and disease features from the nurses knowing about the nursing care of nocturia. The night peeing times, urination volume, and first waking up time of both groups were recorded. The command of nursing knowledge of nocturia and the compliance of carrying out plan were assessed. Results After the intervention, the night peeing times, the urination volume, the first waking up time, and the compliance of carrying out plan were better in the experimental group than in the control group, with statistical differences (t=3.810, 13.491, -19.448 and χ2=5.688, all P<0.05) . The commands of the nursing knowledge of nocturia and falling prevention were better in the the experimental group than in the control group, with statistical differences (t=-8.953, -6.466, all P<0.01) . Conclusions Individualized nursing intervention of responsibility system can reduce the patients’ peeing frequency, increase the patients’ compliance of carrying out nursing measures, and improve the patients’ sleep quality.
