Abstract

Abstract The California Dairy Council and the University of California, Davis convened a conference of experts to examine the individualization of nutrition recommendations and food choices. The conferences objectives included: (1) Present supporting research and advance the concept of individualization of food choices and nutrient recommendations; (2) Expand awareness for a variety of health benefits of foods and their components beyond traditional nutrients; (3) Initiate discussions on how to fine-tune recommendations and advance an individualized approach to the application level; and (4) Identify ways to communicate with and influence peers regarding an individualized approach to dietary recommendations. These proceedings cover the areas of agreement, areas needing resolution, challenges ahead, call to action, and recommendations to health professionals and nutritionists.
