Abstract

The constructs of individualism and collectivism are theoretically analyzed from critical feminist perspectives. This entry explores the relationship between culture and self and provides critiques on cultural relativist assumptions of generalized cultural differences in shaping self constructions. The concept of culture is redefined from a critical and local perspective and various facets of self constructions are examined from critical feminist perspectives. The implications for feminist psychological theories and practices are discussed.
