Abstract

Although both oral and written communication in English are very important in the working environment for engineers, the authors' college curriculum lacked in the amount of experiences of technical English words, such as particular terminology and jargon words concerned with engineering subjects. The authors developed a WWW-based individual learning system in terms of technical English words in 1996 to solve this problem, and it has been operating in real lectures. They discuss the system components, operation in real lectures and the effectiveness of the learning of the system.
