Abstract

Consultants in the noise field tend to encounter the more sensitive individuals. These people may feel entitled to not hear anyone else. This paper will characterize the quiet acoustical setting, and consider the expectations of the more normal individuals. It quiet settings, it is as easy to be heard as to hear. The author, whose family owned a cottage in the Manistee National Forest in Michigan, will recount some personal acoustical observations from being there in the summer. This paper will also examine noise policies for these settings and look at “dB above ambient” as a criterion, since it is in use in Massachusetts, where this consultant practices. Illustrations will also be taken from clients of the author in western Massachusetts and in Maryland.
