Abstract

If HMMs are more susceptible to interference from task-irrelevant stimuli than LMMs, would HMMs be more likely to notice the unexpected object in an inattention task? Noticing an unexpected object may be preceded by attention capture, but attention capture might not be sufficient for awareness4. Thus, past research demonstrating that HMMs are more susceptible to capture do not necessarily imply that HMMs are more likely to become aware of irrelevant stimuli.
