Abstract

ABSTRACT Individual creativity plays a crucial role in forming perception and acceptance of a new technology. To explore this important and yet overlooked topic, we developed a model by adopting Amabile’s componential theory of individual creativity, which identifies three preconditions for creativity: (1) Creative ability, (2) Intrinsic motivation, and (3) Prior knowledge. We conducted an empirical study to validate our research model using Bitcoin as an emerging information technology. The study confirmed that all three components significantly impact the perception of and attitude toward an emerging technology. A better understanding of creative individuals can help firms improve their innovation potential.
