Abstract

Abstract Indirect retention is a means of preventing the displacement of a saddle which is cantilevered out from the direct retainer(s), such as a free-end saddle or curved anterior saddle. A lever system must be created to keep the saddle in place. An example is a free-end saddle where there is only an abutment tooth at one end. Another example is an anterior saddle which is curved outside a straight line between the abutments.
