Abstract

There are two factors that make it necessary to compare the indices of length of working time in the USSR and in capitalist countries. First, these indices are needed to compare the levels and dynamics of labor productivity. Second, these indices are a very important element in comparing the material and cultural standards of the populations of individual countries. The data of labor statistics in capitalist countries often distort the actual situation because labor statistics reflect processes in which the antagonistic contradictions between labor and capital are manifested most acutely.
