Abstract
Prime Minister Modi revealed India's Indo-Pacific vision during the 2018 Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, where he emphasised the ambit of India's engagement in the Indo-Pacific region, which stretches from the shores of Africa to the Americas. Since it plays a pivotal role in facilitating trade and oil flows, the Indo-Pacific region has become the centre of geo-strategic competition between established and emerging powers. Measures like New Delhi and Seoul's Long-term Cooperative Partnership, New Strategic Partnership of India-Vietnam and India's extensive security ties with Japan and Australia all attest to India's relevance as a balancer tasked to building the security architecture of the Indo-Pacific region. The strategic realities of the Indo-Pacific region not only centre on the development of the intricacies of the partnerships, but also on the likelihood of ensuing rivalries or confrontations. Indo-Pacific region is considered to be of immense strategic significance due to its location at the crossroads of international sea lanes and air routes.
